phil durst inspires young artists

The lucky students of Armstrong Elementary School had a special guest teach their art classes for a day! Blue Print Gallery artist, Phil Durst, spent a day back at school educating young minds on the arts and showing them how to collage.

Phil is known for his collages using unique types of paper – candy wrappers, la croix boxes, coke cans and more. He is drawn to pattern and repetition, which are also hallmarks of quilting. His wife is an accomplished quilter and has influenced the style of his work.

The students absolutely loved his technique and unique medium. They were drawn to the colorful candy wrappers and had fun creating art with something they wouldn’t normally think to re-use. Phil helped the students make a piece art that will be auctioned off at their annual fundraiser.
