the front door sets the tone for what’s to come… it’s the most simple update that is most often overlooked. what is your front door saying about what’s inside your home? whether it be mediterranean, georgian, colonial or contemporary — remember to stay true to the architectural style of your home. there are endless options so don’t get swept away. do your research. browse the internet. read magazines. bring photos to your designer, builder or carpenter. better yet, drive the neighborhood.
{things to consider} do you have room for a transom? would a double door make sense for your home? would you prefer more light in your entryway? could new paneling make an impact? maybe a new door knocker, knob and numbers would do the trick? of course, a fresh coat of paint will always be an update.
don’t underestimate the front door — it has some of the biggest rewards when it comes to street appeal.
I would love to replace my double front doors with something different. We have a french style home with double doors which have glass in the top one half. Suggestions?
