learning –  it’s a constant thing ’round here when it comes to big fancy words like biedermeier.

the word, biedermeier, carries such historical weight for interior design gurus.  the biedermeier period originated in Germany and spanned from the end of Napoleonic Wars (1815) through 1848.  biedermeier furniture styles were more simple versions of their French Empire predecessors, simplified for middle class utilitarian purposes.  some would say it’s the earliest form of modern design with its simple clean lines, geometric shapes with a lack of ornate detailing and clear-laquered woods.

it’s the history of furniture pieces that create textures of time in a particular space or home.  we believe strongly in layering time periods — and this time period, especially, will always be one of our favorites.  our owners never leave an England or Parisian buying trip without purchasing a few of these wowsie pieces for the store.  lucky us!
